AbstractMagnetic susceptibility is a very fast and cheap geophysical technique, which is being applied more and more in various environmental and geoengineering applications. On the other hand there are a number of limitations when using this technique such as there are few literatures on the method, lacking of a quantitative interpretation approach of survey data or there is not yet available a complete database of magnetic susceptibility of rocks and soils etc. This study is aimed at carrying out some magnetic susceptibility surveys in Thailand to investigate the relationship between the enhancement of magnetic susceptibility and possible natural and anthropogenic causes that can have usefulness in environmental or geoengineering studies. The main works of this study can be summarized as follows, i.e., overview on magnetic susceptibility technique and equipment; Review on applications of magnetic susceptibility in geoengineering; Mapping of magnetic susceptibility of some industrial and urban area to investigate the anthropogenic effect in magnetic susceptibility enhancement. (Navanakorn Industrial Estate, Silom road, Lumpini park); Measuring magnetic susceptibility properties- of some rock and mineral collection available in Thailand at AIT, Mahidol University Kanchanaburi campus; Use of magnetic susceptibility in investigation of hot spring site to study on possible natural enhancement of magnetic susceptibility by the high temperature - related flow process at Ban khaopung, Kanchanaburi and Maekasa, Tak; Magnetic susceptibility survey of the Bangkok weathered clay. (AIT) The main findings of this research are the relationship between magnetic susceptibility and the hot spring, and namely the high magnetic susceptibility value is found near the hot spring due to high temperature of hot water. In industrial area and urban areas we found that high magnetic susceptibility values are found in the area with polluted air, contaminated soil, near the waste water and at the conjunction of the roads of heavy traffic
