Abstract | Mobile ad-hoc network is a promising advancement for the next generation wireless networks that enables infrastructure-less communications through multi-hop technology. The performance of such wireless system is extremely susceptible to various parameters like mobility, dynamicity of the environment, nodes distribution, variable bandwidth etc. Under highly unpredictable wireless environment, real time performance information holds a great significance that cannot be reflected by the conventional post evaluation approach. The research proposes, design, develop and evaluate a new real time performance measurement system capable of detecting and monitoring traffic flows in MANET. The system implements flexible cross layer architecture that provides network operators with useful information including metrics and statistics. Moreover, simplified GUI with real time visualization, network performance summarization and dynamic trigger have been introduced to provide users with more user-friendly and comprehensible perception on the real time network performance. The system considers the well known protocol, OLSR as the study protocol and can be further extended for multiple protocols in the future. The evaluation results based on real test-bed experiments under different criteria show the proposed approach to be feasible, efficient and advantageous over the offline existing tool like Ethereal |
