Abstract | Indigenous know ledge is playing more and more important role in sustainable development in rural areas; especially the knowledge and methods of traditional integrated land use system of native people are significant to the rural local sustainable development. So, in world wide scale, more and more scholars, experts and managers of sustainable development are interested to study the integrated land use system of native people in order to find out the. useful indigenous knowledge of native people and then to use the helpful indigenous knowledge in the local sustainable development. But it seems that the same thing is different in P.R China, many traditional integrated land use systems of native people are still not studied by scholars and experts in detail, and the traditional integrated land use system of Yi in uplands of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture is one of the examples. For some reasons, the traditional integrated land use system of Yi in uplands of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture is still not clear and unknown to others but for sustainable development in rural uplands of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture it is necessary to study the traditional integrated land use system of the Yi people. The thesis researched the traditional integrated land use system of Yi in uplands (here, upland means cold, mountainous and high altitude area) of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture; how the Yi people use their farmlands to cultivate crops and vegetables; how the Yi people raise their domestic animals; how the Yi people manage their forests and bushes; through what methods or activities the cultivating system, livestock and forest management systems are linked together; which factors caused the changes of the traditional integrated land use system of Yi in uplands of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture; found out, the problems for the local sustainable development; and finally given some recommendations about the local sustainable development to the local government |
