AbstractConstruction industry is playing an important role for all developing and developed countries. Construction material is greatly influenced on total cost and duration of construction projects. Contractors especially in developing countries like Myanmar, face a lot of difficulties in managing construction materials. Increasing the requirement of materials at various times and in various locations often lead to inefficiency in material management of construction projects. Contractor organizations need to develop standard procedures of on-site material management processes for controlling materials in order to be competitive. The existing on-site material management processes of large building construction projects are studied and examined in this case study. Firstly, this thesis study aims to study the existing on-site material management processes of large building construction projects used by Myanmar contractor organization. Data collection for three case studies are performed and processes involved in the on-site material management were identified and mapped out clearly. Secondly, the major problems of existing material management processes are investigated. The practices of each case are compared to one another in order to find out the major problems of existing practices. Finally, recommendations for major problems of existing material management practices in order to get effective on-site material management for contractor organizations.
