AbstractThis study focuses on the production processes and associated air pollution in the Vietnam cement industry. The current status of environmental management in Vietnam Cement Industry was assessed through analyzing ambient air quality from 5 cement plants which are representative production process in Vietnam. The environmental performance of a selected cement plants were analyzed and compared with Vietnam National standards. By the results from investigation, measures for improvement of environmental performance of the cement industry in Vietnam were also synthesized. The Hoangthach cement plant was selected for an in depth analysis as a case study. The periodic ambient air monitoring data of the plant were collected for analyzing and focused on the particulate matter. By using the Industrial Sources Complex Short Term model (ISCST3), the dispersion and impacts of particulate matter surrounding the Hoangthach cement plant are analyzed and evaluated. The stack emission rates were input into ISCST3 model to estimate the TSP ambient concentration and the distance where maximum concentration would occur. Model performance was evaluated by comparison between model outputs and monitoring data at the seventeen monitoring sites. However, this study did not consider the PM deposition due to the lack to particle size distribution. In the case study, the highest TSP concentration was found in the West and the North of the domain which co1responded with wind direction.
