AbstractThere are several routing protocols. Each of protocol provides the mechanism that is suitability for each environment. In our research, we are especially concentrating in Ad hoc On demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol which is a reactive routing protocol. Furthermore, we propose to improve modified connectivity index eel) on AODV protocol. The main objective of our research is to investigate the effect of the modified CI on performance of heterogeneous MANET, and then we compare our proposed algorithm with typical AODV. In our research, we use Network Simulation 2 (NS-2) under Ubuntu version 10.04. According to the simulation results, the AODV with proposed modified CI gives the better performance in terms of average packet delivery ratio, average throughput, average end-to-end delay and control overhead than typical AODV heterogeneous network with low node density. On the other hand, in case of the heterogeneous network with high node density, the typical AODV has higher average packet delivery ratio and average throughput than AODV with proposed modified CI. In term of average end-to- end delay and control overhead, the AODV with proposed modified CI still provide better performance values than typical AODV.
