Abstract | Anti-Plastic bags are one of environmental problem therefore; many countries are providing campaign by integrating multiple tools. The country "Myanmar" also initiated anti-plastic bags campaign especially in the second largest city "Mandalay". Mandalay City Development Committee integrates public informational tools and regulatory measures for plastic bag's producers, distributors and consumers. The study characterizes non-plastic bags consumers from different socio-economic groups; also describe their motivations, enabling conditions and constraints of the alternative users. It also explores the campaign tools influence non-plastic bags users' characteristics and motivations. The study found that non-plastic bags consumer practices biodegradable containers, but they have constraints. Hence, they practices plastic bags partially even though they receive information tools and know regulatory measures. Campaign tools, such as public information tools have restriction to control human behavior on avoiding plastic bags and regulatory tools only targeted to producers and distributors. Finally, this paper has recommended strategies for both national and local level that are possible to implement in Mandalay city. |
