AbstractUbiquitous Geographic Information System (GIS) is the current trend of GIS technologies coming up with wireless communication technologies has seen dramatic changes in recent years. The dissemination of spatial data is not bounded by the stand alone architecture and desktop platform. It is available both on client / server architecture and on mobile devices such as pocket PC or mobile phone. New technologies of networking and mobile computing have always been a key driving force in geographic information science. Apply new technologies in works allow us to do things more quickly and more cheaply. The thesis considers new technologies in Internet GIS and Mobile GIS that are variously aimed at making GIS more mobile, powerful, flexible in sharing and communicating geographic knowledge for accessing optical fiber cable network information at HoChiMinh Posts and Telecommunications. The main purpose of this thesis is making optical fiber cable network information with embedded GIS technologies ubiquitous. The term "Ubiquitous GIS" is shaped with the meaning that "GIS exists at anywhere and anytime". Ubiquitous GIS for optical fiber cable network management will support and help optimize not only office tasks but also outdoor-based management tasks. With supporting of GIS technologies, not only optical fiber cable network is displayed in geographic view but also useful facilities tools based on spatial analysis and network analysis can be done for increasing work efficiency. And to make optical fiber cable network management ubiquitous, both client / server architecture and standalone architecture are used for building application on desktop platform and mobile device platform. As a GIS professional may be overwhelmed with different choices of Internet and mobile software programs. In fact, it is a very challenging task to understand the whole Ubiquitous GIS. Therefore, this research was aimed to use some open source GIS software such as Minnesota Mapserv, PostgreSQL, PHP scripting language and Java 2 Micro Edition and attempt to study the applicability GIS technologies in the web and mobile environment.
