Abstract | The principal objective of a fire station is to protect lives and property. The fire protection capability of a fire station significantly depends on its location. A location-allocation problem is a multi-criteria approach which seems adequate in locating the best sites for facilities in many situations. The principal objective of this research is to develop a strategic model to find optimum sites for new fire station in Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) area. The proposed method is the combination of "Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)" as a multi-criteria decision problem making approach and "Greedy Set Cover" as optimization algorithm. The present research identified eleven criteria and evaluated their priority weight based on local context using AHP. The model attempts to determine the optimum sites for new fire station based on area weight they are supposed to serve exclusively, and site weight where the facility is located. This model is flexible enough to make alternative decision in case of local constrains. The results of a case study on DCC area indicate that the developed model seems to be effective and applicable in solving real world location problem. The model precision could be improved through extensive and direct interaction with practitioners and decisionmakers and experimentations. |
