Abstract | Since the general election in 1993 organized by UNTAC, the Cambodian economy has strongly changed from a central to a market-oriented economy during which time a considerable number of manufacturing companies have flown to Cambodia. Most firms are in their infant stage with small investment size and neglect the importance of working capital management. This research study is to highlight working capital management practices applied by manufacturing companies in Cambodia at present. The real practical aspects of WCM are shown in the three parts: working capital policies, management of working capital components, and controlling and planning of WC. Information is collected through quarterly and annual reports, and internal publications, questionnaire and interviews with related persons in financial areas, especially the financial manager. In an attempt to strengthen WCM practices in Cambodia, an in-depth case study of a food processing company is conducted. The study explored not only theory application but also qualitative analysis. A detailed analysis of past data of the company is done to observe tendencies of the company in regard to financial achievement. In addition, a comparison of financial performance between companies in the same industry is conducted. Finally, the study makes conclusions and recommendations to improve WCM practices, to make them more effective and shape their application designed to respond to the recent competitive environment in Cambodia |
