AbstractThe purpose of this thesis is to find out the effect of refining and Scandinavian softwood, acacia, and eucalyptus and birch hardwood ratio on uncoated and coated paper properties. It has been discovered that the increasing of refining degree causes the better formation, surface properties, strength properties and optical properties except optical and tear index of paper. Softwood component improves strength propeliies and reduces opacity, formation and surface properties. Different type of hardwood creates different paper properties that depend on fiber length and fiber coarseness. Longer and coarser fiber causes better strength properties and worse surface and optical propeliies. The changing tendency of coated paper is the same as base paper. Coating process improves all surface, optical and strength properties of base paper. However, tensile and tear index reduce after coating because coating increases basis weight relatively worse than strength properties
