Abstract | The negligence in maintaining existing infrastructures is becoming one of the largest problems in many developing countries. The Department of Highways (DOH) is the largest highway agency in Thailand that is responsible for constructing and maintaining the major highway network. DOH has currently oriented their policy to emphasize maintenance over new construction. DOH has been using the Thailand Pavement Management System (TPMS) since 1984 to manage all the related maintenance activities for their flexible pavement. However, TPMS excludes the maintenance management of rigid pavement. Major highways, which serve as interregional and intercity routes, are constructed using rigid pavement. A systematic maintenance management for rigid pavement is fundamental in reducing its deterioration rate and increasing its service life. This study develops rigid pavement inspection and condition assessment procedures. The developed procedures measure the performance of the rigid pavement and provide the corresponding condition rating based on the local rigid pavement condition and the actual practices of DOH. Surveys and questionnaires are collected to reflect actual DOH practices as well as local pavement conditions. Several statistical techniques are applied to analyze the collected data and fmiher develop the distress weight factor. A computerized database is developed in this research to support the developed procedures. |
