| Abstract | Learning Management Systems are essential systems in the current educational environment where education through the web became the most popular way of distant education. Learning material for web based educations are developed as learning objects which gives advantageous properties like accessibility, adaptability, affordability, interoperability, durability and reusability. In such a situation the need for a management system to control and run these learning objects became inevitable. Educational standards like SCORM (most popular) controls the way in which these learning objects are to be developed. IMS standards controls the transfer of the content package to and from one LMS to another. The overall aim of this thesis is to develop a LMS based on educational standards working with learning objects. Various standards, LMS and its functionalities and development, content packages etc. were reviewed and analysed during this study. "Global Advantage LMS" is developed and is tested with the learning objects developed by colleagues. The functionalities of the LMS are defined as launching, controlling and managing the learning objects. Some customizations like preferences of the user for the display of menus, options, etc. are provided. Additional modules like full fledged tracking could be added to this system through future works |
