AbstractThe main motto of this research study is to make a comparative study between mobile applications and chatbot applications using academic libraries as a case study. Twenty students from AIT participated in this comparative study who fall in the range of twenty-two to thirty-five years of old. Effectiveness, Efficiency and User satisfaction were the metrics to compare usability of chatbot and mobile application. The COCOMO model was used to measure cost and time of development for both the applications. All the users participating in the comparative study were given mobile applications and chatbot which were developed for the academic library. Users used both the systems before answering questions and participating in the survey. System Usability Score (SUS) questionnaire is used for measuring user satisfaction. After analyzing the results, we can say that, cost and time taken to develop a chatbot are less than that of a mobile application. Both mobile applications and chatbots have the same effectiveness. Whereas chatbot took less time to complete tasks than mobile applications. Users also felt satisfied using chatbot.
