Abstract | Agricultural field monitoring is an activity that mainly aims to increase the productivity of agriculture. However, the changes in illumination and weather conditions lead to image distortion. Therefore, the ma.in objective is to restore the color distortion in image sequences caused by variations in the sunlight. I use rank-1 factorization through SVD to decompose the image sequences into surface reflectance and illumination power for each observation. Then I recover image scene chromaticity without knowing the actual illumination color in a particular image assuming uniform illumination. I evaluate the method with the observation of Macbeth's color chart under a variety of standard illuminations and find that reconstruction of color chart observations is better than traditional color balancing methods. In an evaluation on real data, I find that variation of the scene illumination becomes significantly lower than that in the original observations. Finally, I find that the method is extremely useful in detecting changes in the scene without false alarms due to lighting variation. |
