AbstractThe Internet of Things ( IoT) represents an opportunity for the hospitality industry to increase customer satisfaction while reducing operational costs. The concept of IoT is the key technology for the development of the smart environment. The application of IoT has been implemented in various fields as almost all devices are equipped with sensors for transferring data. With the rapid development, IoT has changed the business operation process in the hospitality and tourism industry. This study is an innovative application of IoT in hospitality. The main objective of this study is to create an ambient ecosystem with the use of beacon technology to provide smart hospitality and service in the hotel industry, by proposing and developing Smart Hotel Stay. It is a mobile application that applies beacon technology to welcome guests in order to provide smart hospitality. The Smart Hotel Stay mobile application is focused on customer experiences and hospitality provided by the hotel industry. In order to enhance customer experience, the mobile application provides information and location to the guests on their smartphones. The close proximity of mobile with beacon triggers message notification on the smartphone of guests that can provide personalized welcome message and location based information. The application is tested by placing a beacon in a room and when a user enters, he/she will receive the message programmed in a beacon signal. The experiment also includes virtual beacons with various messages based on various locations in a hotel.
