Abstract | Since the introduction of rapid prototyping (RP) concept in the early 1980, RP has become an important technology that help manufacturer reduce their product development time. Most of the techniques use laser as the primary tool for creating the prototype. Research has been conducted to make the RP techniques less expensive and commercially available to wider range of customers. In 2008, Tangwarodomnukun conducted a study about the possibility of using low pressure waterjet in rapid prototyping. However, the system developed by him was not complete as there were quite a few aspects that had not been automated. Aspects such as stabilising the sheet during the cutting process as well as the material handling. Previously, the operator had to feed and extract each layer manually. In this research, mechanisms were created to transport the sheet to the cutting platform, secure its position during the cutting, and then extract it out to the stacking platform after cutting. The new system was tested for performance and then implemented to make a prototype. |
