Abstract | Flat screen printing is a popular technique for printing a multi-color image on a piece of fabric such as t-shirt in a batch production. This technique can be used to print a multi-color printed image by screening a set of images color by color. The quality of the printed image depends on the alignment of the screen which depends on the skill of the operator in aligning the screen in the offline process. Presented in this research is a design and development of the algorithm for automatic alignment in multi-color screen printing. Alignment is done by adjusting the block screen before printing. The alignment consists of movement in 3 degree of freedom: rotation, translation in X axis and Y axis of the block screen. Image processing technique is used to determine the relative orientation between the first printed image and the pattern on the screen. The algorithm uses this information to align the screen by sending a command to the manipulators to modify the screen's initial orientation and position. This automatic alignment is implemented on Lab VIEW program and its performance is evaluated. |
