AbstractThis study introduces an economic and environmental decision support model for product reuse. The model considers only single company for each product use cycle under deterministic demand. The objective of developed model is to maximize economic benefit from product reuse while meeting environmental target. For economic part, all related costs in reuse environment except the investment cost are classified into 6 categories. For environmental part, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) technique has been applied to evaluate the environmental performance of product reuse. For simplification, only environmental impacts from material extraction to finished good production phase have been considered in the proposed model. The developed model can be either linear or nonlinear depending on the structure of related cost in the model application of each case study. A case study of reuse house brand shipping carton for postal service is used to illustrate how to customize the developed model into the practical case. In this case, the customized model is nonlinear due to inventory cost structure in the model. The focus environmental impact category in the case study is Global Warming Potential. Furthermore, SimaPro database has been used to indicate the Global Warming Potential of corrugated carton production. Lingo program has been used to solve the case study model. Then, numerical experiments have been conducted to justify the applicability of the developed model. The result shows that the model is useful and can be applied.
