Abstract | The global market is opening up, global competition is on the increase, and modem technology and communications could allow SME to play an increased role in the global market. The research study discusses the phenomenon of greater participation of SME in world trade and production, what they are and what they do. The opportunities for small and medium-sized processed food enterprises in Thailand for greater participation in world trade, and the constraints that these enterprises face to making use of the new opportunities. And how they can compete in global markets. To develop specific internationalizing strategies, four case companies were discussed to see their potential and barriers to entering the global market. Global trends, Thailand food industry and the suppo1t policies from Thai government were analyzed, as the external factors. From the study, small and medium-sized processed food enterprises in Thailand have good oppo1tunities in the global market if the constraints on them were alleviated or removed. Of the main constraints to SME, domestic policy environments have been identified as dominant. Bringing about macroeconomic stability, adopting better incentive regimes, and strengthening institutions can help SME most. However they should be more enthusiastic firms and always adapt themselves to befitting with the rapid change of the world. |
