AbstractRice is the strategic product of Vietnam in providing sufficient staple food for the whole population and being one of the main earners of foreign currency of the nation. Can Tho province is the biggest province in the Mekong River Delta, usually known as the rice basket of the country. This study aims at analyzing the current marketing channels of this commodity in Can Tho province. It also examines the existing situation of rice processing, storage facilities and transportation system in the region. Finally, it suggests a marketing strategy to support rice exporting from the delta. A research, including questionaires survey and in-depth interviews, of farmers, traders, millers/polishers.and companies in rice trading in Can Tho province, was conducted in December 1999 to provide background information for the study.
