AbstractProject management plays a very important role in the management of construction. Although being the major element in EPC project, most of Vietnamese project management firms and contractors are still weak in project management capability. Improving project management capabilities are essential needs for survival and development of Vietnamese project management firms and contractors. This report reviews theory of project management in areas of time, cost, quality, contract, procedure manual and risk management. Necessary processes and knowledge for EPC project management functions are identified and analyzed. By analyzing past performance and practice of EPC project development in Phu Yen Biomass Power Plan, the report points out strengths and weaknesses in project management of EPC project. Necessary solutions for improvements of project management functions are proposed and provide the typical frameworks can be applied to similar EPC project
