Abstract | The aim of this capstone project is to implement a face detection and recognition system using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) algorithm. Based on the eigenface approach, PCA is one of the most widely used algorithms for face recognition. The system matches a test image to a database of stored images on the basis of Euclidean distance and Manhattan distance calculated in the program. Then the face is categorized as known or unknown. A comparison is drawn out between the Euclidean distance approach and the Manhattan distance approach. |
