AbstractAn Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuit is proposed to tackle the high level input dynamic range of a mobile Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) system. The AGC circuit utilizes JFET as a voltage controlled resistor to control the gain of input voltage. The transfer characteristics of the proposed design are virtually flat, independent of active component parameters, and can be set to a desired value with an operational range of j25j mV to j150j mV. Theoretical derivations are compared with simulation results as well as the outcome of a practical implementation. A method to tailor the operation range of the AGC circuit to the dynamic range of an OWC link is also described.
