AbstractThis study investigates the comparison of the transportation systems in Thailand and Sri Lanka. The selected countries represent distinctive combinations of land-use, infrastructure, and evolution of transport policy. Analysis is centered on accessibility to downtown areas, where transportation processes converge in an environment where space is scarce. In Thailand compare with the Sri Lanka there are have huge land area and population Four main categories, Roads and Highways, Railways, Airways, and Waterways were compared in this study. Under those four main categories, there were ten subsections of the comparison for both countries. There were four subsections for roads and highways, two subsections for railways, two subsections for airways and two subsections for waterways respectively. For first category, most sub categories were higher in Thailand except road density. Road density is higher in Sri Lanka due to the land area. Since Sri Lanka has the small land area compared to Thailand. For second category, all sub categories were higher in Sri Lanka since in Thailand all existing rail network is very old and outdated whereas in Sri Lanka it is efficient. For third category, all sub categories were higher in Thailand because of the higher land area in Thailand where can be more domestic flights. For the last category, all sub sections were higher in Sri Lanka due to the location of the island and since Sri Lanka is a focal point of major trade routes. Therefore, Sri Lanka has more connection to global shipping network than Thailand.
