AbstractEarthquakes are one of the natural disasters that cannot be stopped and can bring severe damage to buildings that are not properly designed. This could lead to issues in safety regulation and could potentially harm people in the buildings during seismic events. Therefore, designers consider seismic events as one of the factors while designing a building in earthquake prone regions. Several experiments were conducted on seismic design of precast wall such as monolithic precast wall design, which emulate the traditional cast-in-place reinforced concrete wall design, rocking wall design and seismic design for precast beam and column joints but there were no studies regarding with the behavior of the column. Therefore, an experiment will be conducted in this research to observe the behavior of the column, which use the concept of precast rocking wall system. Since the precast rocking system tends to have low energy dissipation, the column was designed in a way that it had an elastic behavior until the targeted story drift so that any energy dissipative device can be added to the system analytically as long as the behavior of the devices are known. The result came out as expected. The column had good self-centering system and had elastic behavior throughout the test since the column did return to its initial state without failing whenever the load is removed. The column did not have major failure even after 6% story drift but the column had low energy dissipation as expected. Therefore, the behavior of a de-compressioning energy dissipative device was added to observe the behavior of the column with energy dissipators.
