AbstractCities are important as they provide job opportunities, various facilities and services. As a result, they foster trade and economic activities. Bangkok as a city provides similar opportunities too. Therefore, there is huge influx of population in Bangkok which puts pressure on transportation services. As the population of Bangkok is expected to rise, a long lasting solution is needed to address its transportation issues. The study analyzes the Bangkoks transportation situation in comparison with cities around the world. First, sustainable urban transportation indicators are identified from previous research. The indicator data are then compiled from various city authorities publications and other international sources like European Platform on Mobility Management (EPOMM), United Nations statistical database, ADBs Statistical Database System (SDBS). Second, Urban Transport- Data Analysis Tool was used as it has comprehensive data. Bangkoks situation was compared with cities around the world. Residents in Bangkok were found to be living away from core city, take a long journey to job opportunities by car. They do not prefer mass transit system. However, there is big amount of bus ridership from captive riders.
