| Abstract | While moving towards the sustainable development, the concept of green building has turned into the front line in the development industry internationally. Basically, green structures expand the productivity of resources while managing natural resources for the future era and lessen effect on human and environment. With the worldwide interest, these days development of green structures has turned into another trend in Sri Lanka too. Numerous studies distinguished that there is a huge beginning venture saw in the green development than routine structures. However, in this concept there are some main factors and challenges of applying Green building concepts in constructions. Therefore the research aimed at investigating the important factors and challenges of green building approaches for a country like Sri Lanka. The questionnaire survey was conducted as a main data collection method to fulfill the study. Identified important factors and challenges in applying green buildings by referring previous studies in order to arrange the questionnaire. The questionnaire has distributed by hand delivery method to the engineers who are holed highest positions in a construction companies in Sri Lanka. The sample size is 110. T test, Anova and correlation methods were used to analyze the data. Results depict cost of green materials considered to be as most important factor in Sri Lankan green building construction industry. Also the main challenge is operations and maintenance of green building. Furthermore the outcomes demonstrated that the development of a green building provides numerous natural, financial and social advantages has many challenges of applying green building concept in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, the paper discussed some recommendation to improvise Green concept in Sri Lanka. |
