Abstract | Even though nuclear energy has many advantages in present world, the radiation exposed to human beings can cause various diseases and eventually lead up to death. Therefore it’s difficult for human beings to detect and measure the intensity of radiation in nuclear accidents or leakage. Radiation detector robot has become the most important means for safety and protection of employee’s in non-destructive testing services and nuclear power plants. The objective of this project is to design and develop a radiation detecting surveillance robot. The main purpose of this robot is to help human beings in detecting the harmful radiation during nuclear accidents or leakage. The robot is equipped with a tank tread wheel system, which makes it possible to operate on various ground surfaces. An ionization chamber is used as radiation detecting instrument which generates the current flow in the chamber and a relation of exposure rate in terms of mR/hr (milliRoentgen per hour) is calculated. A wireless camera is equipped with a tilt-and-pan system for spying and direction control from the remote terminal. A remote terminal is designed for the guidance of the robot, where the direction of robot is shown by the arrows pressed by the operator. |
