Abstract | Advancement in the telecommunications service industry is now being driven by technological change, deregulation and privatization and sophisticated customer demand. These factors have reshaped a previously monopolistic market to one which is more open and competitive. This has resulted in better telecommunications services and further technological development. The conceptual framework refers to the framework of management resources and capabilities of the CAT, which include the framework for achieving sustainable competitive advantage. The framework consist of 4 key elements: (1) resources and capabilities which focus on identifying critical resources and capabilities in CAT, (2) competitive advantage-based development which will consider the resources and capabilities to survive in the competitive market after liberalization and promote further existing businesses to meet the competitive challenges, (3) critical resources and capabilities required to secure CAT's sustainable competitive advantage and (4) set of recommendations to CAT to overcome weakness in it's present capabilities. This research study tried to clarify the importance of existing resources and capabilities of CAT. To support strategic options to improve CAT's telecommunications services. This research study discovered many problems, such as marketing and sales and customer service system which will be critical weaknesses in the intensive competitive starting in 2006. CAT's performance shows weaknesses in operational, marketing and technological capabilities. Finally, this research study recommended appropriate strategies to solve the problems. Apart from efforts to building in-house capabilities choosing the right JV partner is recommended as one option to improve CAT's operational, marketing and technological capabilities in the near future. |
