Abstract | The construction waste management studies helps to reduce the waste in construction industries. Better waste management practicing leads to reduce of environmental problems, illegal dumping and cost of project. This particular research study was focused on the building construction sites in the eastern part of Sri Lanka. The main reason behind this was, eastern part of Sri Lanka has experienced 3 decades of civil war and Tsunami which caused a catastrophic damages in this area. So, significant numbers of projects were under taken in this region and expected to be undertaken in future also. The questionnaire form was prepared based on the knowledge gained from the relevant research analysis from authorized personalities. The questionnaire consists of the waste materials, causes of waste and practicing of reuse, recycle and disposed to landfills. The questionnaire forms were filled by qualified persons such as Project manager and Site engineer in order to make sure the accuracy of the data. And the questionnaires were distributed only among the contractor side. From the analysis it has been identified that respondent knowledge, stories of building and project cost were influence to generating waste. The reuse and recycling of waste materials practice were very low in the construction sites while disposed to landfills were too high. Proper practices of reuse and recycling facilities, good regulation and policies may leads to reduce the waste generation in construction sites. |
