AbstractTonle Sap Lake is one of the important water sources for human being in Cambodia and it is surrounded by five provinces in the dry season and six provinces in flooded season (Kompong Chhnang, Peusat, Battam Bang, Bonteay Mean Chey, Siem Reap and Kompong Tom). It provides human need such as water, fisheries, agriculture, and flood control. This study aims at estimation of the existing water quality, present water quality management, co-ordination between local people and governmental agencies, and relationship between nitrogen nutrients to fish and water volume. A sustainable development in the lake is the main purpose of the study. Data collection from primary and secondary data was used for the estimation and the VisSim 3 Model is a main tool was mainly utilised in the study. The results of the Laboratories showed the TSS and turbidity are high value. The TSS is about 600 mg/l in some parts at Chong Kneas that it is possible affecting on fish mortality. Moreover the present water quality management and the co-ordination are estimated that they are slightly poor conditions. However government undertakes to improve these conditions. The simulation results of the Model VisSim 3 shows the variables (PN, DN, IN, ZN and FN) are mainly depends on the Mekong River that it changes the volume of the lake. The simulation is quite well that it is simulated successfully to estimate the water volume and these variables depending on time. The observed and simulated results provide reasonable results. The Model VisSim 3 also shows its applicability and reliability that it can be used for evaluating water resources and sustainable development planning in the area. A systematic monitoring and modelling should be implemented for the lake.
