Abstract | This study was undertaken to asses the current cement market of Sri Lanka, in detail, critically analyze each player in the industry and to recommend Mahaweli Marine cement Company Limited (MMCCL) to take a new path in it's marketing and distribution efforts. Under this study, past, current and future situation of Sri Lankan cement market was studied in detail. When studying current cement market situation, growth in construction industry, demand variation and existing and prospective competitors were studied in details. MMCCL's production and marketing activities were studied in detail and reported. The study also focused on major competitors in terms of their current pricing, distribution, promotion and customer service practices and tried to identify their future plans with regard to the same. Meeting agents, distributors, and retailers was considered important in order to identify their views with regard to each brand, price and quality and preferences of the customers such as end-users and masons. Based on the information collected from whole spectrum of stakeholders in the cement industry an analysis was carried out and a set of recommendations are made to MMCCL. |
