| Abstract | The main interest behind this research is to examine the impact of the foreign direct investments on economic development of Kazakhstan over the seven years of its independence. The economic and political factors, as major determinants of the foreign direct investment flows have been included in the model after studying the theoretical bases. For the investigation of the level of the foreign direct investment inflows in country, the model has been established. The study examines the factors responsible for FDI attraction into the country and the factors, discouraging the entrance of foreign investors into Kazakhstan's market. The results of the model show that economic and political factors are significantly responsible for the attractiveness of the country. Then the impact of the DFI inflows on economic performance of the recipient country is evaluated based on the modeling results. The impact of the FDI on Kazakhstan's manufacturing sector and the manufacturing export performance with the employment generation is not significant yet. First reason is the ongoing structural changes in the economy of the country which were initiated lately. The second reason is the prevailing government's attention to oil and gas exploration while ignoring the manufacturing sector's problems. But the intangible and tangible benefits from FDI attraction will affect positively country's economy in the nearest future. |
