Abstract | Dry zone area is one of the most important agricultural areas of the country and rainfed agriculture is practiced with sesamum, pigeon pea, green gram, chickpea, and cotton as the major crops. In order to improve farm productivity, different strategies are used as essential tools. For the pu.rpose of understanding the existing farming systems, this study was taken in one of the dry zone area, Kyaukpadaung Township. The farm survey was examined to assess the implementation of all relevant factors such as physical, biological, resource and socio-economic that prevailed in the current agricultural production. Moreover, the study also tried to find out the economic analysis and the incomes from current farming system. Household income from both farming and non/off-farm activities were carried out. Soil samples of 27 were analyzed to estimate the soil fertility in the study area. From soil analysis, the content of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are mostly under very low and low criteria. Thus, fertilizer recommendation rate especially for sesamum was calculated in different soil classification to get the moderate yield. Use of crop model, DSSAT 3.5 crop model was made to analyze the optimum planting time, rainfall distribution, effective rainfall and yield, yield gap analysis, and irrigation analysis of sorghum and chickpea production by using the existing soil, weather and crop cultivors. Since the simulation results by using generator of DSSAT 3.5 was well fitted with real cases, the crop model can be a useful tool for analyzing of crop production in the study area. |
