AbstractAnalysis and design of a system for creation of virtual libraries describe a systematic approach in developing an Internet service called 'virtual library'. Virtual libraries apply the concept of traditional libraries in cataloging and classifying of resources, but leave the Internet resources at their original location. The data stored in the system are resource descriptions, e.g. title, author, and URL, while the user interface provides through web browser the link to original location of resources. The study begins with collecting and studying the current situation concerning the development of virtual libraries both in business process and technology. Then using information analysis and design methods, proposes a set of general procedures and models for understanding the system which could be easily adapted to actual implementation. The mod~l proposed in this study has already been reviewed and tested with a prototype system to demonstrate its applicability. Finally, the study proposes some insight for future direction for developing the system.
