AbstractThis study presents the model for the blending process, production scheduling and inventory management that concern in the foundry manufacturing system. The blending process is modeled as linear programming model. The solution is obtained for the raw material charge quantities that will yield alloy with certain specification at a minimum cost. A few variations of the model are provided. The production scheduling procedure is proposed under a make to stock policy. The heuristic tries to use existing stock to meet the order before a new order is release to the factory. Additional information made available by the heuristic includes the inventory status, booked stock, and available to promise, the information is valuable in the monitor and control of the production schedule. The inventory management focused on the timely availability of accurate information. A daily update of actual production and raw material consumption is mandatory for the system to work properly.
