AbstractSix-Sigma concept is a relatively new way to measure how "good" a product is. When a product is Six-Sigma compliant it tell us that product quality is excellent. The Six-Sigma quality concept recognizes that a small amount of variation will be present as a result of slight fluctuations in environmental conditions. Thus, we have to know as soon as possible when small shifts occur. Two types of control charts, CUSUM and EWMA, are recommended for this situation. Furthermore, X and R charts are also the good candidates. Which one is most suitable for continuous and discrete type of processes? To answer this question, data are collected from continuous and discrete processes. Data are analyzed by checking the sufficiency of sample, the normal assumption, and randomness. Then three types of control charts are applied and compared the performance. Based on the results, there is no strongly conclusion to indicate the most suitable for continuous and discrete processes. However, when small shifts are of interesting, the abilities of CUSUM and EWMA control charts are better than the ability of X and R charts. On the contrary, X and R charts are the most effective charts when large shifts are of interesting.
