Abstract | Wideband CDMA has been selected as a radio interface for the third generation wireless system. The proposed scheme utilizes high bit rates and variable bandwidths to provide multimedia capabilities. When different services are provided by different bandwidths, interbandwidth interference may disto1i the signals, eventhough each user is differentiated by different orthogonal spreading codes. The use of orthogonal codes reduces this interference, but when it encounters multipath channel, the orthogonality will be partially lost. In this thesis, performance of multi bandwidths over a Rayleigh multipath fading channel is studied through simulation. Application of high data rate transmission is considered, in the WCDMA system. The effect of bit error performance in a multipath fading environment is analyzed by considering typical high and low mobile speeds. Performance of single bandwidth is also evaluated for comparison. Based on the simulation results, when single bandwidth is used, the lower bandwidth perf01ms better than higher bandwidths. When different bandwidths are simultaneously used in the system, the higher bandwidths perform better than lower bandwidths. The performance of this system degrades significantly for increased correlation in fading for low mobile speed. Hence, in the third generation wireless system, when the user accesses different services such as voice data and high speed multi media, the service which uses higher bandwidth performs better than lower bandwidth services. |
