AbstractThe rapid growth of the China economy has made Shanghai attractive to domestic and foreign companies in the competition in this market. The tremendous investment in construction and the real estate industry created a potential market of the high-rise fire protection in Shanghai. The government incentive policies are conducive to the development of high-rise fire protection and local government encourages foreigners to invest in this market in Shanghai. It is essential to identify the appropriate entry strategy for foreign companies in high rise protection. Based on the business environment of Shanghai, the market analysis of the high rise protection market in Shanghai is done and the gap between the demand and supply in the near future is found. The analysis shows significant opportunities exist at present and in the future. The competitor analysis provides a more precise empirical knowledge about the high-rise fire protection market in Shanghai. Entry strategies taken by the existing competitors in the high rise protection market are analysed and appropriate entry strategies regarding when to enter, with what products to enter and how to enter are identified. It is found that, it is still the best time for foreign companies to enter the high rise fire protection market in Shanghai but the foreign companies should enter the market with high technologies products. When foreign companies enter this market, they should first establish representative offices in Shanghai and export a small amount of their products to this market. After a period of understanding of this market and extensive establishment of relationship with local government agencies and non-governmental organisations, a joint venture should be established to reduce cost and expand sales.
