AbstractWith rapid advancement in information technology its influence is also spreading at a very high pace and practically it has reached every comer of the world. One way or the other, all individuals around the globe are feeling its effect. This study is done to assess the wideranging impacts IT is having on business organization structure and the individuals working in these organizations. For this purpose two companies, one from Pakistan and other from UK were chosen to study the impacts in practical business environment. Although there are many factors involved in bringing change in the organizations like changing environment, increasing competition, expanding markets, demanding customer etc, IT is also one of the major driver of change. Comparative study revealed significant impacts of new IT on the organizational structure and the individual employees in both the companies. It was found that Wickes from UK went all out to derive maximum benefit from new IT even at the peril of loss of control and high level of stress among its employees. On the other hand Lever Brothers of Pakistan, subsidiary of UK based company, went ahead very consciously which though resulted in under utilization of the resources, but still company did not risk some bold measures to change itself. While some impacts were environment based for example use of information access as a power tool or complete access to information for optimal exploitation, others were mainly dependent on company's attitude or philosophy, like aggressive against conscious approach or centralization versus decentralization of authority.
