Abstract | Great change has taken place in China during the recent two decades and the change is still going on. The beer industry, as one of fastest developing industries in China, has made much progress. As one of the suppliers for beer breweries, the malt sector is experiencing change with the development of the beer industry. Since the main purpose of this research is to suggest entry strategies for foreign malt suppliers, based on the international marketing opinions, the macro-environment, i.e., the political, legal, cultural and economic environment, is overviewed for general foreign investment. The beer industry - the buyer of the malt industry, the barley market - the supplier of the malt industry, and the malt industry itself are analyzed to try to give a good understanding to foreign investors who want to get involved in this industry. Finally, a few entry strategies are proposed with their advantages and disadvantages. However, a foreign malt supplier has to decide which entry strategy is appropriate to it, in accordance with its strengths, weakness, strategic development and objectives. In the appendix, the China's national standards on malt and barley, and questionnaire are given for reference. |
