Abstract | In present, US old newspaper is used as a raw material to produce Thai newsprint. The use of US newspaper accentuates production cost due to different parameters including transportation. Thai newspapers could be the best alternative if the barriers of collection process and deinking are removed. This thesis focus is to overcome the problems encountered in deinking of Thai newspapers. The deinking of Thai and US ONP was done under the same condition in laboratory scale. Washing deinking was followed by using Bauer McNett fractionator. Deinking of Thai ONP shows the comparable results to those of US. This means it has potential to be replaced for US ONP if the collection problems are overcame. Optimization of Thai deinking was done by using different re-pulping conditions. Deinked pulp characteristics, physical properties and optical properties of handsheets were examined as well as the effect of using different re-pulping chemicals, temperature, time and pH on brightness. It was concluded that Thai newspapers could produce the same or even higher quality newsprint than US ONP if the deinking condition is modified based on the specific condition of local newspapers. |
