AbstractThis study was undertaken to optimize the major prope1iies of newsprint produced from local newspaper (Thai old newspaper) and US newspaper specifically brightness. The work was focused to search for a suitable deinking condition for Asian Newspaper and results were compared with deinking potential of the US old newspaper (US ONP). Deinking potential of Thai and US ONP were examined by four different process configurations. The different chemical dosage was used for both Asian and US ONP either in pulping or bleaching. It has been found that the deinking potential of Thai ONP is considerably lower than US ONP in each configuration. The furnish from Thai and US newspaper were made in the ratio of 90/10 (i.e. ONP 90 and OMG 10). The condition to attain optimum brightness, yield and strength properties was addressed
