AbstractThis study related to the detection of changes in the land use/land cover in selected districts of Chachoengsao and Chon Buri province in Thailand. Changes in some selected agricultural, urban areas and infrastructure development during 1989 to 1997 have been studied. The impacts of changes on the urban development and some specific agricultural crops have been studied. The accuracy of the classification has been determined. Landsat 5 TM data of almost the same date in three different years at an interval of four years have been used in visualising the chronological changes of specific land use of the study area. Result showed that integration of GIS with remotely sensed data provided more information. Cloud free or with less cloud data of Landsat TM provides a useful means for land-use/ land-cover classification. Ancillary data supplemented the remotely sensed and GIS data for extracting useful information of the study area. A model is developed for predicting future urban area based on the trends of the last few years built-up-area and the population density of the study area.
