AbstractThe geological conditions of Kok-Ing-Nan Water Diversion Tunnels were evaluated on basis of existing reports on investigation and conducting, field mapping and laboratory rock tests so that their of influence on the design and construction of tunnels could be determined. Engineering geological mapping along the tunnel alignment was carried out which helped classify rock mass quality according to the most popular classification systems, namely RMR and ·Q-system. The determination of basic physical properties, uniaxial compressive strength, tensile strength, direct shear strength, deformation moduli, slaking and swelling were carried out to aid the assessment of rock mass quality. The results obtained from this study indicated that the rock mass quality along the tunnel may range from very poor to good rock. The support recommendation according to the RMR and Q-system were estimated and compared with the support system which was recommended by CRIEPI classification.
