AbstractEngineering Properties of three rock types at Mae Khan Dam site namely, Gneiss, Biotite Gneiss and Granite Gneiss were investigated preferring by laboratory testing and field mapping. The results from the laboratory tests have shown that these rocks have medium to high strength with medium to high modulus ratio. The relationships between index properties, strength and deformability of these rocks were evaluated. Rock mass classification used by RMR shown that these rocks are classified as poor to fair rock condition. From the permeability test showed a number of high zone presented at Dam site and which suggested that Dam foundation needs grouting treatment. The potential strength test and the insitu testing for Dam site are recommended.
