Abstract | Landslides often a threaten the hilly central part of Sri Lanka, which is about 20% of the land area of the country. Matale district is located in this area. The fast development of this region has expanded the settlements on steeper slopes and traditional landuse has been affected with changes that increase the hazard to landslides. Therefore, rapid and correct mapping of these landslide prone areas in order to know the distribution of hazard is very important and essential tool for planners and decision makers related with the future development of the area. The purpose of this study is to integrate Geographic Information System and remote Sensing technology for making landslide hazard zonation map. Heuristic method is applied for the methodology. Interpretation of aerial photos and the field survey is done for preparing the landslide inventory map and collects the data of the other influencing factors to occur the landslides. All the factor maps prepared manually and digitized using computer and finally, all factors and data are analyzed using the software Arc View GIS 3.2. |
