Abstract | This study presents a simple, effective way to plan for material consumption for a small batch process factory. The work started with the procedure to forecast the monthly sales values for the next year. This forecast sales values are then converted into production quantities required to meet the sales targets. Net production requirements are then calculated. The net production requirements for the next three months are used to calculate the raw material consumption over the same period. This is the common input for the purchasing and the financial departments. The procedures are implemented using Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. Although the user interface is quite rudimentary, the procedure helps the company under studied to have a more effective raw material procurement plan as well as a better basis for the planning and control of the weekly or monthly production schedule. |
