Abstract | Cambodia still has the fastest growing HIV/AIDS epidemic in Asia. The necessary to plan care and services for PLWHA National Authority AIDS policy emphases home based and community based care for PLWHA. This study looked at the gender responsiveness of home based care, both from perspective of the PLWHA and those providing care. It is essential to understand the differences in role and responsibility between men and women as caregiver. In Cambodian society womens are the primary caregivers in the household, workplace and community. This study explored the option care scenarios of PLWHA. HIV/AIDS care and support is to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS and also identify the women are the major caregiver in the household. The research identified the different types of vulnerable group among PLWHA. Housewives, who vulnerable because of husband engaging in sex outside and increase the risk of infection bring to their housewife, and also the low awareness of HIV/AIDS and STI is high level risk behavior among MSM. Economic factors move women into the sex industry. By the way in Cambodia culture men can go out freely and perform their desired activities as they want, so it may cause men vulnerable. The Children became vulnerable who parent carrying HIV/AIDS usually drop out of school and work outside even become exploit and involved in sex work. On the other hand children vulnerable though poverty and domestic violence. Research explored the gender differences in caring. Women and girls are in a primary burden of the care for PLWHA. Gender differences found that women and girls are giving more attention care than men. If women as caregiver and become HIV positive then family become poor and hopeless then the burden falls to children. In Cambodia, home based care system is more useful and helpful for PLWHA. It provides emotional support, socio-economic support and psychological support. The government and non government program related to care HIV/AIDS should expand the home based care more as the people living with HIV/AIDS required |
